The end of support for Windows 10 will arrive in October 2025. At that time, millions of computers will be left without Windows support because they are not compatible with Windows 11. This issue will affect practically all computers manufactured before approximately 2020. If you want to check whether your device is compatible with Windows 11, we recommend running Microsoft’s PC Health Check on your computer.

What Can We Do Until Windows 10 Reaches Its End‑of‑Support Date?

Until then, there are three alternatives:

  1. Apply the upgrade to Windows 11 if the device meets the Windows 11 hardware requirements. We can deploy this upgrade at scale from Intune or ConfigMgr.
  2. Comprar un nuevo ordenador con Windows 11 preinstalado. De esta manera, también tendríamos el equipo en garantía.
  3. Migrate to the cloud and subscribe to Windows 365. Microsoft commits to keeping updated those Windows 10 devices that are used to connect to a Windows 11 Cloud PC in Windows 365.

What is an ESU License?

The ESU (Extended Security Updates) license extends support after the operating system’s end‑of‑life date. ESU is a special license that Microsoft has previously offered for other operating systems such as Windows 7 or Windows Server 2012 R2. On some occasions, Microsoft has provided offers that include ESU under special conditions. For example, if you moved your Windows Server 2012 R2 server to Azure, ESU was automatically included for free for as long as the server remained hosted in Azure.

ESU is not intended as the solution for keeping a Windows 10 device supported; rather, it is a temporary aid to complete the device‑refresh process until all machines have hardware compatible with Windows 11. The ESU license will be limited to addressing security issues and will not add new features or design changes to the operating system. In fact, Windows 10 will remain officially out of technical support.

What Is the Relationship Between Windows 10 and Windows 365?

With a Windows 365 license, the Windows 10 device you use to connect automatically includes the ESU license at no additional cost. Yes, you read that correctly: your Cloud PC license includes the Windows 10 extended support license for free with Windows 365. To give you an idea, the cost for the first year of the ESU license is approximately $61, the second year this amount doubles, and in the third year the price doubles again.

How to Get Windows 10 Extended Support for Free with Windows 365?

Microsoft will announce all the details in October 2025, when official support ends. Until then, the only information shared so far is that the process will be as transparent as possible for the end user.
